There is nothing like witnessing a young lady coming into her own, on the precipice of her future, as she is about to take that next step.  As a South Texas High School Senior Portrait Photographer, I have the privilege of not only witnessing it, but capturing it in their Senior pictures.

As graduation quickly approaches, the lovely, Claire, is in just that moment of her life.  I recently introduced you to Claire when I had the pleasure of photographing her on the soccer field, you can read the awesome story of that night here.  This week Claire and her bonus-mom came to see me so that we could photograph her softer side.

The three of us had a great time, laughing and cutting up with each other during the shoot.  I'm pretty far out in the country and Claire thoroughly enjoyed telling Tina she had a bug on her and watching Tina jump!  That never got old and Tina fell for it every single time.  LOL

Claire is a lovely young woman who has an engaging personality and a fun spirit.  With a strong & loving support system at home, she has a bright future ahead of her.  I can't wait to see what she makes of her life and I look forward to capturing her most important milestone moments as she conquers the world!

At Ms. Studios we’re all about showcasing what is fierce and feminine about the women of south Texas that we photograph.  For a high school senior, “fierce” can present itself many different forms.  Sometimes it’s burning the midnight oil studying for finals to keep your grades up.  Sometimes it’s the perseverance to run one more lap.  Sometimes it’s the integrity to stand up for what you believe, when you’re still trying to figure out exactly what that is.  And sometimes it’s showing grace in the face of defeat.

I had the pleasure to photograph the fierce and lovely Kelly High School senior, Claire, doing what she loves, playing soccer.  And she’s not just any player, oh no, she’s the Kelly Bulldogs Goalie!  The first time I met Claire she seemed quiet and reserved, but when she puts on those gloves and cleats, she has full command of that field!  I was not an athlete when I was in high school but I am a huge sports fan, so I was in complete awe watching her and her team fight against their adversary.  They were not predicted to win but not only did the Bulldogs score first, they held the score tied at 2 till the very last seconds of the game when the opposing team scored a final game winning goal.  The agony!  They fought so hard, I was heartbroken, and I had never seen a Bulldog game before this night!  But this young woman handled herself with grace and dignity, a testament to the upbringing her dad and bonus-mom provide her, no doubt.  (And speaking of, isn’t her bonus-mom the cutest soccer mom you’ve ever seen?  LOL)

There is a Japanese proverb that says, “We learn little in victory, much in defeat.”  I would have loved to have photographed a win for her last night, but there is no doubt in my mind that I photographed a winner.  I’m honored that her parents trusted me to capture these memories for them.  Stay tuned for more of Ms. C when we photograph her softer side in the coming weeks!

What a difference a few years makes!  I've known Taylor's mom for longer than I care to share!  We worked together shortly after I moved to Houston and we hit it off immediately.  We always kept in touch and she's one of those friends that regardless of how much times has passed between chats or visits, we always pick up right where we left off.

I had the pleasure of photographing Taylor when she graduated high school a few years ago, and now I'm so honored to have been able to photograph her again as she graduates college with her RN!  I drove to Beaumont so we could do the session there on the Lamar University campus. Home base is Navasota, but as a South Texas Photographer, I serve a large region of the state and am happy to travel to various locations!  I'm so glad we did because the image of her sitting on the Lamar sign is one of my faves!  I love capturing my client's true spirit and watching their personality shine through my lens.  Taylor certainly didn't disappoint!  I added a couple of shots from her high school session and then a few of my faves from last week's session.  It was so hard to pick only a few, she totally rocked the #FiercelyFeminine vibe at her shoot!  Taylor has grown into a beautiful, strong, lovely woman - she takes after her mom... even if mom couldn't find the sun.  LOL

At both of Taylor's sessions, mom, Anette, played the part of my 'assistant' and held my reflector for me.  I would set up the shot, get Taylor in place, get ME in place, and then tell mom to "light her up"!  To which mom would inevitably reply, "Wait, I can't find the sun"!  "Um... big, yellow orb in the sky, Anette."  LOL  I knew what she meant, when you're not used to redirecting the sun's rays, it can be hard to get it to point right where you want it, but we've been friends long enough that I had to tease her about it a little.  It was all in good fun and we had a great time.

I love that I got to be a part of Taylor celebrating her success at completing her RN.  What an amazing accomplishment!  I created custom designed Graduation Party invitations for them as part of the full service Ms. Studios provides.  Next up we're going to be doing a 'Fashion/Glamour' shoot for Taylor, so watch the blog!
